When we finally connect on facetime and my friend’s smile comes into view, I smile in return. Our conversation has been long delayed. I had missed a planned call two months ago when life intervened and I had to clear a couple of days on my calendar. I was so distracted at the time I even neglected to let her know I needed to reschedule. And then….

Now our conversation flows around me like life-giving water. We catch up on life events and I realize so much has happened since we last spoke. We always talk about spiritual things, and she reflects back to me how God has been working in my life, allowing me to recognize much I had been too consumed with tasks to notice. I leave our time together buoyed by her compassion and assurance.

God’s love is continually revealed all around me and sometimes I am able to walk faithfully within it. Many times I lean on the faithfulness of others; and other times I am oblivious to God’s presence and nevertheless carried along by a great cloud of witnesses.
